| by Sarah Fruchtnicht

A Mexican woman whose weight doubled to 275 pounds in just five years thought it was just a sign of getting older, until her daughter convinced her to see a doctor.

Before the weight gain Mercedes Talamante, 51, had been just 143 pounds. When she finally sought medical attention she learned she had the largest ovarian tumor on record.

Doctors removed a 132-pound tumor from her abdomen.

“We could not find any example of an ovarian tumor this big. There was no precedent anywhere in the world,” said Moises Aaron Nunez, director of Cabo San Lucas Hospital.

Talamante had grown depressed because of her appearance. For the last 24 months she was barely able to move, the Daily Mail reports.

It took a surgical team four hours to remove the tumor.

“I feel like a new woman,” Talamante told a press conference. “In fact after the surgery when I took my first steps, I felt like I was walking on air.”

She said the first thing she had to do after she was released from the hospital was thank her daughter.
