UCSF Doctor Deborah Cohan Dances to Beyonce Just Before Mastectomy (Video)

| by Emily Smith

Deborah Cohan faced her double mastectomy with courage and joy Thursday, dancing with her medical team in the operating room before her surgery.

The Ob/Gyn and mother of two can be seen in a 6-minute long video posted to YouTube, where she and her medical team at Mt. Zion Hospital in San Francisco dance to Beyonce’s “Get Me Bodied”.

Cohan asked that friends and family make similar videos of themselves dancing so that she could watch them during her recovery.

“I have visions of a healing video montage,” she said. “Nothing brings me greater joy than catalyzing others to dance.”

Cohan hopes that people will play the same song wherever they happen to be at 7:30a.m. on Tuesday morning and send a photo or video of themselves dancing.

“In the kitchen, the carwash, subway platform, classroom, Labor and Delivery unit, wherever!” she said.

Her request has garnered a huge response, with fans posting their own dancing videos to her CaringBridge page.

The video currently has 3.5 million views, after only one day online.
