Nineteen tourists died when a giant hot air balloon exploded over Luxor, Egypt, on Tuesday (video below).

According to CNN, the hot air balloon exploded when a fuel tank caught fire.

The fire brought the huge balloon to the ground, ranking the tragedy as the worst balloon accident in 20 years.

"My first thought was that it was sugar cane that was burning," said Christopher Michel, a photographer who was a passenger in another balloon. "This juxtaposition of this great beauty and this wonderful country and this horrible tragedy is just really shocking. We all feel terrible."

It was an early, dark morning, and uneventful for 45 minutes - until they started to descend and the explosion happened, said Michel.
