The first Ebola patient to be diagnosed in the United States is now reportedly in critical condition.
According to Reuters, Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas had previously described Thomas Eric Duncan’s condition as “serious.”
That changed on Saturday.
Officials have not yet explained what happened over the past 24 hours or what that means for the man’s treatment options.

On Friday, a team equipped to decontaminate areas exposed to Ebola arrived at the Dallas apartment where Duncan stayed and cleaned it out thoroughly. The family that had been residing there since Sept. 28, despite the fact that Duncan’s sweat-stained possessions had been left behind, was finally moved out as well.
While people in several other areas -- including Hawaii and D.C. -- have gone to the hospital to get checked for Ebola-like symptoms, nobody besides Duncan has tested positive for the disease.
