Clarksville, Tennessee, woman and paramedic Sarah Ray left her own wedding in order to help her grandparents after a car crash.

Ray left her wedding just an hour after saying “I do” on Oct. 3, ABC News reports. The 29-year-old, along with her paramedic husband Paul, wanted to make sure that no one had been injured in the crash.

According to Ray, her father suffered minor injuries and her grandmother had to be briefly hospitalized. The crash happened after another car ran a red light.

“There are a lot of people that are using the word ‘hero,’” Ray told ABC News on Oct. 12. “I don’t think what we did was heroic. It’s just anything that any first-responder would have done.”

Ray added that she and her new husband often stop at accidents, but this time she drew attention in her wedding dress.

As Ray attempted to help during the crash, her mother snapped a perfect picture of the new bride with her skirt lifted.

“I think the photo is great,” Ray said. “It definitely makes for a memorable wedding. I hate that the actual accident had to happen, but everyone is going to be OK, so we can kind of laugh about it now.”

After checking out the scene, Ray finally made it back to her own wedding.

Montgomery County Chief Jimmy Edwards noted that Ray is an outstanding paramedic and a compassionate human being.
