A salmonella outbreak linked to raw tuna has left 53 people sick in nine different states.
Although people in Arizona, Illinois, Mississippi, New Mexico, South Dakota, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin have been affected by the outbreak, 31 people in California have fallen ill due to salmonella. While none have died from the outbreak, 10 people have been hospitalized.
It’s unclear where the outbreak began, but most of those affected ate sushi specifically containing “spicy” tuna within a week of falling ill.
"At this time, a common brand or supplier of raw tuna has not been identified," the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said on its website.

California Department of Public Health Director Dr. Karen Smith said in a statement: ”As the investigation continues, this is a good reminder to Californians that there are sometimes risks when eating raw or undercooked meats, fish or poultry.”
According to the CDC, the outbreak occurred between March 5 and May 3.
Symptoms of salmonella poisoning include diarrhea, fever and abdominal cramps. Most who fall ill recover without seeking medical treatment.
