Pelosi: Republicans Won't Repeal Obamacare

| by Ray Brown

House Minority Leader Rep. Nancy Pelosi of California doesn't believe the Republicans will be able to repeal the Affordable Care Act, considered by some to be the hallmark of President Barack Obama's presidency.

“Everybody, everybody benefits from ACA,” Pelosi told a group of reporters, according to the Huffington Post. “There are 127 million Americans with a pre-existing medical condition. Nearly half of them with a very severe ― really need care regularly ― pre-existing medical condition. For them, are we going to eliminate pre-existing condition provisions of the bill?”

President-elect Donald Trump has said he plans to keep parts of Obamacare, including allowing people to stay on their parents' insurance plan until the age of 26, according to the New York Times.

But Pelosi said Republicans won't be able to do that if they repeal Obamacare as a whole.

"You can't keep them. You can't afford them because the cost would be so astronomical," Pelosi said, according to CNN.

"They say they're going to keep 'this, this and this,' and they'll find out that they will do it as at a cost to the policy holder," Pelosi said, adding that the "cost to the policyholder is one of the thing[s] that they are sensitive to."

Pelosi went on to say that it will be possible for Republicans to work with Democrats to find common ground on what to change about Obamacare.

"We know that there were many compromises made to pass the Affordable Care Act. There can be other compromises made to preserve it,” she said. “And depending on how far that goes that may be something that we can work together on, because we are legislators.”
