Parents Seeking Help To Diagnose Daughter's Mystery Illness (Video)

The parents of a sick seven-year-old girl are hoping that their story reaches people all over the world so that someone, somewhere, can help them figure out what’s wrong with their daughter.

Maddie Hays first broke out in a “mystery rash” when she was two years old, but it went away not long after it first appeared. Last fall, however, the very same rash reappeared, and now, it’s even worse. The rash has caused incredibly painful swelling on the girl’s face, which sometimes forces her eyes to shut.

“She has seen specialists in rheumatology, immunology, dermatology and infectious disease,” said Erin Hays, Maddie’s mother, to WTVR. “We are currently waiting on an appointment with hematology/oncology.”

The Hays are taking their story to the media and the Internet in the hopes of finding a diagnosis.

“All the doctors and specialists we have seen think whatever is plaguing my daughter is extremely rare and yet no one can figure out what is going on,” said Erin. “It is attacking her body, scarring her face and causing lymph nodes to swell. It is making her afraid to be seen in public. She currently cannot attend school.”

Family members set up a GoFundMe page to raise money to offset medical bills, and a Facebook page has even been created to help raise awareness.

“My family will be more then appreciative for any financial help donated, but more importantly please help us find her the doctors she needs so we can get Maddie better!” wrote Erin.
