New Dangerous Craze: Teens Drinking Hand Sanitizer

| by Michael Allen

In Los Angeles, California, health officials report that teenagers are being treated for alcohol poisoning in emergency rooms after drinking hand sanitizer.

CBS Los Angeles reports that teens are using salt to separate alcohol from hand sanitizers, which is like drinking shots of hard liquor.

Dr. Cyrus Rangan, chief of toxicology for the Los Angeles County Health Department, said: “Very often, they will get drunk at home or at a party or something like that... because of the potency of these products, some of these children will get very highly intoxicated and require a visit to the emergency department."
