Brawl at Baby Shower Includes Men and Women

| by Michael Allen

A baby shower brawl in Stoughton, Massachusetts resulted in three men and a 14-year-old boy being arrested.

The men and the teen were charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and assault and battery on a police officer.

Police say Patrick Cardoso Lopes, Paulo Pires Depina and Aderito Lopes Deandrade, all of Brockton, Massachusetts, will be arraigned today. The 14-year-old boy’s name was not released because of his age, reports the Patriot Ledger.

The brawl actually involved as many as 200 people, including women, and was called a “nightmare” by police.

Officer Robert Devine told the Patriot Ledger: “The behavior was appalling. It was absolutely appalling. There’s just no other way to put it. The worst part was there was a lot of children. Our officers were concerned about the safety of the little ones, while the people who were fighting apparently could have cared less. They were swinging chairs and smashing bottles.”

The fight was so bad that police had to call in reinforcements. No one was seriously injured in the fight, but four officers suffered minor injuries during the incident.

These large brawls seem to be happening more often. Last week, 60 students and parents were caught on video while fighting at a bus stop in Swissvale, Pennsylvania. Local  Police Chief Greg Geppert told CBS Pittsburgh, “They were riots.”

Woodland Hills School Superintendent Alan Johnson said: “It was appalling. I’ve been very disappointed.”
