A high school security guard has been suspended following an altercation in which he pushed a female student down a flight of stairs, kicked her, and then pushed her back onto the floor after she lunged back at him.
The incident, which occurred Tuesday at Dunbar Vocational High School, was recorded on the cell phone of a nearby student. Although hordes of classmates witnessed the beating, none took action to stop the confrontation – which led to the girl making a stop in the emergency room.
The victim’s lawyer is now investigating whether the security guard in question was involved in any similar altercations prior to Tuesday’s attack.
“We are shocked by the unjustifiable assault committed by the CPS employee,” the family said in a statement provided any attorney. “The video and the egregious actions of the CPS employee speak for themselves.”
The security guard, who still hasn’t been identified by school administrators, has since been suspended.
“The safety of our students is our top priority,” CPS spokeswoman Becky Carroll said in a statement. “CPS takes matters of employee misconduct very seriously, especially when it involves the safety of our students. Once CPS was made aware of this incident, immediate action was taken to suspend this individual and an investigation is ongoing.”
Students have said the security guard was attempting to break up a potential fight the victim was initiating.
