Bullied 5th Grader Tay Windmon Creates Facebook Group “Sick of Bullies”
After 5th grader Tay Windmon was bullied to her limits, she decided take action. As told to Fox40 Sacramento, the 11-year-old Tay created a Facebook group titled “Sick of Bullies” in response to being tormented at school.
“One time, I actually got hit in the face with a thick book by another bully in my class. Most of the time, that was the same bully that kept bullying me, kept calling me ugly and stupid. I really didn’t like it,” Tay told reporters. "I thought it was probably true, and so I would go to the bathroom a lot and cry."
Tay’s mother, Crystal Windmon, “brushed it off” when she first heard of the elementary school drama, but realized a much more serious situation was brewing after seeing Tay come home in tears, day after day.
“I came home and I wanted to make a group because I was bored, and then I thought of the bullies group.” Tay says of her Facebook page. “We just tell them that they’re not alone, and that there’s actually someone there for them, they don’t need to be worried about anything.”
Tay’s mother describes the group as a sort of therapy for the young girl, but also recognizes the benefits to others who join. “She can save someone’s life with this group. Somebody may see it and feel like they have support and they have friends on the page.”
Just days after Tay created the Facebook page, “Sick of Bullies” grew to over 1,500 members. The interactive community that has developed through the group shares inspirational posts and continues to invite others from their social networks to join.
