An answer has finally been found for one of the most pressing questions on a man’s mind – what is a normal penis size?
A new report, titled “Am I Normal?” and published in Tuesday’s issue of BJU International – formerly the British Journal of Urology – summarized the results of 17 published studies that were conducted amongst roughly 15,000 men, as well as 96 previous papers on the subject of male genitalia. The results of the study will help doctors inform men of a normal range for penis size, particularly those who might suffer from small penis anxiety.
“It is a hidden problem,” the study’s author, Dr. David Veale, said. “Men are more likely to seek solutions on the Internet with lotions potions, extenders or surgery.”
The study found that the average length for a flaccid penis is 3.61 inches, while the average length for an erect penis is 5.17 inches. Average flaccid circumference is 3.67 inches, and erect circumference is 4.59 inches.

While a great number of men consider penis size to be an important factor in sex, many doctors believe that measurements don’t actually matter as much to women.
“Some men that have a smaller penis size are much more confident in their love making, find different positions or motions that actually give a lot more stimulation than can some men who have large penises,” New York psychiatrist Dr. Madeleine Castellanos said. “It takes much more than just the anatomy.”
While girth is reportedly the measurement that pertains mostly to women in terms of how it affects them during sex, Castellanos stressed that men should not be overly concerned with that particular number.
“I don't want guys to take these numbers and say: 'That's it, that's the only thing that matters. I'm not very wide. What am I going to do?'” she said. “No, it goes along with the whole process of her arousal, as well.

“There's a lot of social programming about if a guy is really big. There are a lot of ideas spread throughout our society that have no basis, at lease none scientifically,” she added. “That social programming piece, yeah, it's huge. No pun intended."
