Mom: Daycare Worker Breastfed Son Without Permission (Video)

| by Michael Howard

A North Carolina woman is pushing for criminal charges against a daycare worker who reportedly breastfed her son without her consent.

Kaycee Oxendine works as a pre-kindergarten teacher at Carrboro Early School, where her 3-month-old son attends daycare. On Feb. 3, Oxendine was told that her son was constipated, at which point one of the daycare employees offered to breastfeed him, according to WTVD.

"She said that she had a son and did I want her to put my child to her breast and breastfeed?" Oxendine said. "And I said no, that's nasty. We don't do things like that."

Security footage reportedly shows that, shortly after Oxendine left the room, the daycare worker picked up her child and began to breastfeed him.

"She did it with ease, like she does it on a normal basis," Oxendine said, according to KABB.

The breastfeeding lasted only a few seconds, but that was enough to make Oxendine's son sick. He began vomiting later that evening and was taken to the hospital.

"To me, a criminal act was committed against him," Oxendine told WTVD. "Not only did you put your breast to my son, you also made my son sick because he's lactose intolerant. So you've put something in his body that his body can't digest."

"As a mom, you've taken something from me, because I wasn't able to defend my child," she added. "I wasn't there."

According to the daycare's director, Daron Council, the woman is no longer employed at the facility. She was reportedly licensed to work in childcare and had been doing so for over a decade.

Council added that the incident was reported to the Department of Health and Human Services. He also informed the parents of the other children attending the daycare.

Oxendine said she is satisfied with the way in which Council handled the situation, adding that she hopes the employee will face criminal charges.

"He's done everything in his power that he can do so I'm not angry at the director," she said. "I'm not angry at the childcare center. I'm very angry at the employee. I do hope that there's justice for my son."

The incident is being investigated by police as a case of misdemeanor child abuse, according to WTVD. No charges have been filed.
