Sex and Semen Can Make a Woman Happier and Healthier, Study Shows

Finally, guys, researchers have published what men have wanted to hear since Adam and Eve--there are lots of good reasons to have sex! One is that it can make your lady happier and healthier. The study by State University of New York found that semen contains potent “mood-altering chemicals” that can do wonderful things for a woman's body and mind.

This study was done from a survey of 293 college females from the university's Albany campus, who agreed to fill out an anonymous questionnaire about various aspects of their sex lives and then they then compared those responses to how the women viewed their mental health.

Earlier research had shown that seminal fluid contains chemicals that elevates mood, increase affection, induces sleep and also contains at least three anti-depressants.

Apparently men were endowed with a nifty combination of mood enhancers that don’t get the credit they deserve. Along with spermatozoa, semen also contains cortisol--which increases affection; estrone--which makes you happier; and oxytocin, another powerful mood elevator, reports the Daily Mail.

As if that weren’t enough, semen naturally contains two other antidepressants, including well-known serotonin, and sleep-enducing melanonin.  So after you get really happy, you go to sleep. (We needed a study to tell us that?)

So how does this translate into a happier, healthier sex partner? Researchers Gallup and Burch and psychologist Steven Platek claim that women having unprotected sex (and therefore directly absorbing semen during intercourse) are less depressed and perform better on cognitive tests. (And it’s a lot more fun than Prozac!)

Here are some more interesting theories offered by the study and “The Generous Husband” site, and may be, as he suggests a “snake-oil” list but are scientifically.  Decide for yourself, or better yet, discuss them with your mate.

--Women’s bodies can detect 'foreign' semen that differs from their long-term or recurrent sexual partner’s signature semen. They suggest the ability to detect foreign sources is an evolved system that often leads to unsuccessful pregnancies because it signals a disinvested male partner who is not as likely to provide for the offspring.

--Women who have unprotected sex with their partners - and therefore are getting regularly inseminated by them - experience more significant depression on breaking up with these men than those who were not as regularly exposed to an ex’s semen.

--But, on the flip side, they also go on the rebound faster in seeking new sexual partners.

--Chronically condom-less, sexually active women also evidenced fewer depressive symptoms than did those who 'usually' or 'always' used condoms or those who abstained from sex altogether.

Here are a few more possible effects of semen on a woman’s health and happiness  from “The Generous Husband” site :

--Increased affection and feelings of closeness

--Increased sex drive (semen contains testosterone, and it’s been shown that the majority it is absorbed by the vagina)

--Stronger orgasm (if he climaxes first)

--It’s also very likely that semen has pregnancy protecting qualities, meaning sex during pregnancy could reduce miscarriages and pre-term labor.

The Generous Husband admits that having a dozen kids might not be good for a woman’s mood, sleep, or other things.  He makes it clear he is not advocating abandoning birth control but merely using other methods; and he is talking only about a monogamous, marital relationship.

The research study, published in the Archives of Sexual Behavior, suggests it is not just that women who are having sex are simply happier, but explains that the happiness appears to be a function of the seminal fluid pulsing through her veins.
