10 Ways to Fight Anxiety and Clear Your Mind

A clear head can help you think through a situation.

It can also just mean better focus and relaxation for a better, healthier you.

Here are ten ways to clear your mind.

  1. Meditate - meditation is the best way to clear you mind and get focus or clarity. Doing it daily for an extended period of time (just a few minutes) can lead to a better quality of life and teach you to quickly clear your head almost on command.
  2. Take a break - turn off the TV, shut down the computer, turn off your phone, laptop, tablet.. clear all of the distractions and just relax. De-cluttering your surroundings for a little while each day can help you relax and re-focus. Doing so for an hour or so before bedtime can help you sleep better as well.
  3. Declutter your surroundings - removing visual and auditory clutter from your surroundings in your office, workroom, study, and/or bedroom can help you to keep focus and relax.
  4. Breathe - simple and effective, taking a few deep breaths can act as a sort of on-demand meditation technique to help you relax and clear your mind.
  5. Be present now - by thinking only about what's happening right now. Forget the past and future and focus on the now. Doing this can remove negative thoughts and change your perspective.
  6. Concentrate on 1 task - instead of many. Multi-tasking might be OK sometimes, but doing it continually is hard on your well-being. Focus on single tasks as often as possible and exclude others until that task is complete. Make checklists to facilitate this.
  7. Write it down - speaking of checklists, writing things down and creating lists, recording ideas, etc. can go a long way towards easing your mind and making things seem less random.
  8. Say no - sometimes just saying "no" when someone asks you to do something or add to your already-busy schedule is the best way to keep that straw from breaking the camel's back.
  9. Stop worrying - and focus instead on the tasks that will solve the problem. Worrying only adds stress.
  10. Filter - the types of inputs you get and when. When it's time to relax, as stated above, turn off all input signals and relax. If your task requires focus, filter out all non-related inputs while you concentrate on that task. Just because you got an email doesn't mean you have to respond right away. Learn to filter.
