A 10-year-old boy has died after suffering cardiac arrest at a McDonald's restaurant.

Mirror reports that the boy was with his mother at the fast-food chain’s Ilac Center restaurant when his heart suddenly stopped beating. The boy, identified by local media as Maleek Lawal, was rushed to a nearby hospital, but doctors were unable to save him.

Maleek was the oldest of three children.  His family would reportedly take him to McDonald’s every Friday. The cause of death has yet to be determined, nor has any link between the fast food chain and Maleek's cardiac arrest been established.  The local community is said to be reeling from the loss, with family members being comforted by loved ones.

According to the Irish Independent, the restaurant released a statement which read:  "Management and staff wish to extend their deepest sympathies to the family involved.  As a point of clarification, the company wishes to advise that this tragic incident did not occur in a McDonald’s restaurant."

There has been no clarification yet on whether the death took place inside or outside the McDonald’s.
