Labrador Befriends Reluctant Boy With Down Syndrome (Video)

| by Emily Smith

A dog named Himalaya refused to give up on a toddler with Down Syndrome who didn’t want to play with him, all while the boy's mother recorded the scene.

The viral video has accumulated over 1 million views.

The video was originally posted by Ana, the child’s mother, from Buenos Aires. Ana wrote in the comments below the video that her now five-year-old son Hernán often shies away from physical contact because of his Down Syndrome.

“Hernan is a bit withdrawn and flees from physical contact,” Ana wrote. “He does not like be touched, but Himalaya insisted so patiently.”

This judge looked an inmate square in the eyes and did something that left the entire courtroom in tears:

Despite the fact that Hernán, who was three-years-old when the event was recorded, continues to scoot away from Himalaya, the Labrador persists in trying to make contact.

Himalaya lays her paw on Hernán’s leg, then his shoulder as if honoring him.

She is exceptionally gentle in making contact with Hernán.

At 3:12, it appears Hernán eventually tries to hug Himalaya out of exhaustion, rolling his eyes.

The dog does not belong to the family, and it is believed that she is actually a pet of Hernán’s uncle.
