Jacintha Saldanha, Prank Called by DJs About Kate Middleton, Commits Suicide

Jacintha Saldanha, the nurse who answered a prank phone call from two Australian radio DJs that led to divulged medical details about Kate Middleton and her pregnancy, has died in an apparent suicide.

The body of Saldanha was found at an address near the King Edward VII Hospital (pictured), where she worked, reports the Daily Mail.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: "Police were called at approximately 9:25 a.m. on Friday, December 7, to a report of a woman found unconscious an address in Weymouth Street, W1."

Prince William and Kate Middleton issued a statement saying they are "deeply saddened" and added that their "thoughts and prayers are with Jacintha Saldanha’s family, friends and colleagues at this very sad time."

The King Edward VII hospital said in a statement: "She was an excellent nurse and well respected and popular with all over her colleagues. We can confirm that Jacintha was recently the victim of a hoax call to the hospital. The hospital had been supporting her throughout this difficult time."

Saldanha answered the prank call at 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning from Australian DJs Mel Greig and Michael Christian, who pretended to be Queen Elisabeth and Prince Charles, and asked if they could be put through to Kate. Saldanha didn't realize it was a prank so she transferred the call to one of Middleton's nurses, who revealed the personal information.

The Australian radio station 2Day advertised the stunt worldwide, and today Christian was boasting about the prank "making international headlines."
