Israelis Invent New Anti-Date Rape Straw

| by Michael Allen

Ever since date rape drugs have become easily accessible, women have had to be on high alert when drinking in public as someone could easily slip an odorless and tasteless drug such as GHB into their drink.

An Israel professor of Tel Aviv University, Fernando Patolsky, and his partner Michael Loffe, have invented an 'Anti-Date Rape Straw' which can detect the two most common drugs used in drugged date rape drinks: ketamine and gamma-hydroxybutyric acid of GHB, reports ShalomLife.com.

The plastic straw changes color when it detects a drug, informing the individual that he/she is at risk. Hopefully he/she will not be too plastered to realize the straw has changed color.

The researchers are also working toward increasing the straw’s detection abilities by getting it to flag roofies.

Patolsky and Loffe hope to sell the product within a year.
