New Chemical 'Keep 32' Could Make Teeth 'Cavity Proof'

| by Michael Allen

A new chemical, created by dentists in Chile, reportedly eliminates bacteria that cause cavities in 60 seconds.

The new creation is called 'Keep 32' and goes after streptococcus mutans, which is the bacteria that turns the sugar into lactic acid, which erodes tooth enamel.

If it really works, Keep 32 could be added to toothpaste, mouthwash, or even chewing gum, which would get rid of the main cause of tooth decay.

Keep 32 has been tested for seven years, and is now going to be tested on humans, say researchers José Córdoba of Yale University and Erich Astudillo of the University of Chile.

If trials are successful, Keep 32 [named after 32 teeth in the human jaw] could be for sale in 14 to 18 months.
