Brazilian woman Layane Santos says that doctors stole her baby and then tried to convince her that her pregnancy was “purely psychological.”
Santos, 19, woke up from having had a C-section and was greeted by doctors informing her that she was the victim of “a phantom pregnancy,” which produces no newborn baby.
According to The Daily News, Santos was 38 weeks pregnant when she began to suffer from abdominal pain and blood loss and had to be rushed to Santa Casa de Maua maternity hospital in Sao Paulo. That was where the “delivery” took place.
Santos had an ultra-sound only a week before the C-section. The scan revealed that she was carrying a baby girl, Sofia, who weighed seven pounds. Santos also said the size of her baby as well as its fetal hearts beats had also been recorded by nurses at the hospital.
Popular VideoThis young teenage singer was shocked when Keith Urban invited her on stage at his concert. A few moments later, he made her wildest dreams come true.
“My husband told me what the doctors had said, and I became hysterical with despair and cried,” Santos said. “I asked about the doctor, I wanted to speak with him because I had entered the hospital with a baby inside me but I was leaving without one. I can't believe a child who weighed seven pounds could just disappear in blood. I think they stole the baby, or the baby died while she was being delivered and they didn't want to tell us what happened.”
A spokesman for the hospital said exams performed before the "delivery" proved that Santos was not carrying a baby. The couple's attorney, Leila Salomao, said they are seeking to gain access to hospital records about the incident. Further helping Santos’ cause, the doctor involved in Santos' pre-natal treatment has said she will be a witness for the couple if there is a court case.
