Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, claims he wants to defund Obamacare to help African-Americans and Hispanics.

The Tea Party lawmaker repeatedly told CNN today that there was bipartisan support to repeal Obamacare, but he finally admitted they did not have the votes right now (video below).

However, Cruz said he is "convinced" there is a new "paradigm in politics" which is "the rise of the grassroots."

“I believe if we see a grassroots tsunami, that is going to cause Republicans and Democrats to listen to the people," Cruz said, who has a government health care plan. "It’s going to take a tsunami, and I’m going to do everything I can to encourage that tsunami."

CNN host Candy Crowley asked Cruz: “This has been put into law. It’s already law. Why not just get on board and try it?”

“Because it’s not working and it’s hurting Americans,” Cruz responded.

However, most of Obamacare will not start until January 2014.

"The people that it’s hurting the most are the most vulnerable among us," Cruz said. "The people who are losing their jobs are young people, are Hispanics, are African-Americans, are single moms. I don’t think that’s fair, I don’t think that’s right.”

He did not provide any proof that people had lost their jobs directly because of Obamacare, which does not legislate employment.

Cruz also did not mention that 500,000 young African-Americans and 913,000 Latinos have been able to stay on their parents’ health care plans because of Obamacare, according to to the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services.
