A 32-year-old man in India reportedly broke his penis during sex and told doctors he could hear the "snap" while having "vigorous sexual intercourse."
The man, who was not named in the BMJ Case Report description of the event, had a swollen penis that had been curved into a C-formation and turned nearly completely black from lack of blood. The man was diagnosed with a fractured penis, due to the acute dorsal angulation of his member.
“Penile fracture occurs when an erect penis undergoes a blunt trauma during sexual intercourse or otherwise, bending the penile shaft and causing a tear/rupture of the tunica,” reported BMJ Case Reports.
The woman on top position, sometimes referred to as “cowgirl,” is responsible for one-half of all penile fractures, according to a report in the medical publication Advances of Urology Journal, reported by The Telegraph.

"Our study supports the fact that sexual intercourse with 'woman on top' is the potentially riskiest sexual position related to penile fracture,” the report stated. “Our hypothesis is that when woman is on top she usually controls the movement with her entire body weight landing on the erect penis, not being able to interrupt it when the penis suffers a wrong way penetration, because the harm is usually minor in woman with no pain but major in the penis.”
The report continued, "On the contrary, when the man is controlling the movement, he has better chances of stopping the penetration energy in response to the pain related to the penis harm, minimizing it.”
But even with the man controlling the motion, he isn't 100 percent safe. Sex with the man behind the woman, or “doggy style,” is also risky, accounting for 29 percent of broken penises. And the missionary position isn't exactly foolproof, either, with 21 percent of broken penises occurring in the traditional position.
It's not clear what position the 32-year-old man in India was in when the breakage happened.

Sexual intercourse is not the only way to break a penis. In Japan, only 19 percent of cases are attributed to sexual intercourse, according to a report in medical journal Reviews in Urology, with the majority of cases reported a result of masturbation or rolling over in bed onto an erect penis.
And in Iran, only 8 percent of the cases were reported to have happened during sexual intercourse. The rest were reported to have occurred because of a donkey bite to the erect penis, a man falling from a mountain onto his erect penis and a brick falling onto an erect penis. The reports suggest these odd reasons could have been fabricated.
