Poll: 63% Believe N.J. Gov. Chris Christie Needs to Lose Weight Before Running for President

| by Michael Allen

According to a new poll conducted by NJ.com, 477 people (63% of those polled) believe New Jersey Governor Chris Christie (R) needs to lose weight before running for president, while 331 said his weight was not an issue.

474 people in the poll (37%) said the question was sexist because if a male reporter asked a female candidate if she needed to lose weight, “he’d be crucified.’’

Gov. Christie was asked if his weight would disqualify him from being president by Barbara Walters on her '10 Most Fascinating People' special on ABC-TV this week (video below).

Gov. Christie said: “That’s ridiculous. I mean, that’s ridiculous. I don’t know what the basis for that is. I think people watched me for the last number of weeks during Hurricane Sandy doing 18-hour days and getting back up the next day and still being just as effective on the job. So I don’t think that will be a problem.’’
