A family in Richmond, Virginia, is mourning the death of a man after he was reportedly tackled by a security officer and died as a result of his injuries.
Phillip Whitaker was waiting for his prescriptions at the VCU Medical ambulatory pharmacy on Aug. 7, according to his family. When Whitaker’s name was called at the counter, the 64-year-old was tackled by a contract security guard, reports WTVR.
VCU officers then discovered Whitaker unconscious on the floor with a serious head injury, Richmond Police reported. The man was taken to the emergency room where he underwent surgery for the bleeding of his brain. He was also put on life support.
On Aug. 9, Whitaker was taken off of life support and immediately died.
