Family Welcomes Twins After Death Of Sons (Photos)

| by Alex Scarr

A North Carolina couple gave birth to twins two years after losing both their toddler and newborn son in a fatal car crash.

Hadley and Gentry Eddings, from Charlotte, North Carolina, welcomed healthy twin boys July 10, naming them in honor of their two older brothers who were both killed in a car accident in 2015, according to WYFF.

In May 2015, Matthew Deans, 29, rear-ended a vehicle that caused a chain-reaction crash, eventually running into the Eddings' vehicle. The couple's 2-year-old son, Dobbs Eddings, was killed immediately. Hadley was eight months pregnant at the time of the accident and was rushed to a local hospital for an emergency delivery, according to WWAY. Reed Eddings was delivered successfully but died two days later.

Deans was charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter and served one year and three months in prison. During the trial, both Deans and the Eddings were highly emotional, with Deans offering the Eddings a sincere apology. The Eddings accepted and offered Deans their forgiveness.

Deans was found to have the drug acetyl fentanyl in his system at the time of the crash, but the substance was not on any banned list in the state of North Carolina. It could not be discerned if the substance directly impaired Deans at the moment of the crash, but he was found to be operating the vehicle while distracted.

Former Republican North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory signed a bill soon after the accident that made acetyl fentanyl a Schedule 1 drug on the state's controlled substances list.

"The loss of Dobbs and Reed Eddings ripped the heart out of this community," said District Attorney Ben David. David went on to note the tone of forgiveness in the courtroom. "If everyone saw what we just did, I think you’d realize that in the midst of tragedy, there is also hope and despite the imperfect world we live in, there is also beauty in it and we witnessed that."

The Eddings announced their new pregnancy over Facebook, where they received an outpouring of support.

"Y'all have held us up in prayer and we are so grateful! Now we ask you to add two more Eddings to your prayers! We are expecting twins this summer!" Hadley Eddings wrote, posting a picture of a sonogram, according to WYFF.

Both parents were overjoyed as they welcomed their newborns into the world, naming them Isaiah Dobbs and Amos Reed, in honor of their two brothers who were killed.
