Andrea Mitchell announced on her MSNBC show on Wesnesday that she has been diagnosed with breast cancer.

"I had planned to be hiking in Wyoming last week, but instead discovered that I am now among the 1 in 8 women in this country — incredibly 1 in 8 — who have had breast cancer," she said.

Mitchell said her prognosis looks good.

"Mine was discovered during my annual screening just a short time ago," she said. "Luckily for me, I am one of the fortunate ones; we discovered it in the earliest stage, it hadn't spread, and I'm already back at work with a terrific prognosis."

Mitchell, 64, is a long-time reporter for NBC News and is married to former Federal Reserve Board chairman Alan Greenspan.
