Ernest Chumbley claims that he killed his wife Virginia Chumbley, 44, because she asked him to end her suffering due to breast cancer.

Authorities say that Chumbley called 9-1-1 at 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

"Hello…I just shot my wife... Give me police. I’m under arrest," Chumbley told the 9-1-1 dispatcher, noted WKYT.

Chumbley, 48, was arrested on a murder charge and is being held on $200,000 bond at the Laurel County Detention Center in London, Kentucky.

"I shot her. She died from my shots, but it’s not murder," he told WKYT from his jail cell.

She told me she wanted me to end her pain. All I said, 'Jay, all I’ve got is what the doctor gave you.' She said 'No, I want you to stop my pain for good.'"

Chumbley also told LEX 18 that his wife did not want any hospice care.

"I loved her, I loved her. She ain’t in pain now. She’s a good woman," added Chumbley, who pleaded not guilty to murder charges.
