Controversial Christian historian David Barton recently told the Faith Baptist Church in Knightdale, North Carolina, that no vaccine would be discovered for AIDS because a cure would eliminate God's judgment for homosexuality that is promised in the Bible.
Barton cited Romans 1:27 to support his claim, even though AIDS is never mentioned in the Bible:
"Now, in my opinion, I don't think they ever will find a vaccine for AIDS, 'Well, that's pretty callous isn't it?' No, actually I'm just using what the Bible says here, Romans 1:27, this is what the scripture says: 'Men, leaving natural relations with the woman, lusted toward each other and did that which is wrong, receiving in their bodies the penalties due them.
"That's the last phrase, 'Homosexuals receive in their bodies the penalties due them.' If you can find a vaccine for AIDS, then you're not receiving in your body the penalty. Now, you know why they haven't found a vaccine for AIDS so far? Is AIDS is the fastest known transmuting virus in the history of mankind?”
Barton then showed two slides of news headlines, which he claimed were about the same failed AIDS research project. Barton also claimed the two headlines came out six weeks apart. One clinical trial was in Thailand, noted Popular Science, and the other was by the U.S. National Institutes of Health, which was reported by Yahoo News.
Popular VideoThis young teenage singer was shocked when Keith Urban invited her on stage at his concert. A few moments later, he made her wildest dreams come true.
Psychologist and blogger Warren Throckmorton reported in March: "The problem with Barton’s presentation is that the second headline didn’t come out 'six weeks later.' Rather it came out four years later in 2013 and was about an entirely different attempt to create a vaccine."
During his presentation, Barton added that there is still "no cure for that behavior, which is the result of their bodies penalizing them for what they do in homosexuality, that's just what the Bible says."
However, AIDS/HIV can and has been transmitted in other ways besides homosexual sex, including blood transfusions, intravenous drug use and other exchanges of bodily fluids.
PBS reported that HIV has been around for decades, began in the bodies of apes and was transmitted to humans around 1931.
