Investigator Don Hopkins has more than three decades of law enforcement under his belt, but he recently faced one of the biggest matches of his life when he was bitten by a spider.
The Waynesboro, Mississippi, officer went to the doctor after his leg began to itch and he noticed a brown and purple spot developing on his leg. He had been bitten by a brown recluse spider, with no recollection of when it may have happened.
The doctor placed him on antibiotics but after four days, his leg had worsened.

The venom from the spider had gone into his bloodstream and was causing his organs to shut down.
Hopkins was admitted into Anderson Regional Medical Center in Meridian, Mississippi, where his health was deteriorating over several days, almost to the point of death. He was convinced that he wasn't going to survive.
"I remember talking to my wife, and I said I don't think I'm going to make it," he said.
