Bodybuilder Romario Dos Santos risked his life after attempting to look like the fictional character the Incredible Hulk.

Santos, 25, injected oil and alcohol into his arms in an attempt to achieve an appearance like the fictional character, the Daily Mail reported. As a result, he nearly had to have both of his arms amputated. Santos has said that the combination is addictive, which is why his life had spiraled out of control.

“I saw some really big guys in the gym with huge arms and I started to make friends with them,” Santos said, according to the Inquisitr. “They introduced me to synthol and I got excited about the results – I lost control.”

As time passed, Santos began discovering even more life-threatening ways to inject the synthetic filler.

“My muscles started to solidify and I couldn’t even inject my arms – they were full of rocks,” Santos explained. “I decided the only thing I could do was buy specialist needles to inject. The kind of needles used on bulls – there are no stronger needles around – I know it seems stupid but I had to get my synthol fix.”

Once, Santos even tricked his wife into injecting him in places he couldn’t reach. Once his wife discovered the truth, however, she gave him an ultimatum: chose between his synthol or his family.

Santos’ addiction became so bad that he was hospitalized while his wife was six months pregnant. He was close to suffering from kidney failure due to the toxins in the oil when doctors said they would have to amputate at least one of his arms.

Fortunately, the amputation was not necessary. Instead, the doctors removed the synthol rocks that had formed in Santos' arms.

Since then, Santos has still struggled with his addiction to having large muscles. Despite this, he still plans on pursuing a career as a professional body builder. He says he is committed to staying clean.
