Police in Mesa, Arizona, shot and killed Danielle Jacobs, a 24-year-old social media celebrity who had Asperger's syndrome, on Feb. 4 (video below).

Friends called the police because they believed Jacobs sounded suicidal.

"She had one knife that we know of, she had something else we're not sure what it was, the officers said it was dark inside the room," Mesa Police Department Detective Esteban Flores said, according to AZ Family. "When she made contact with them she approached them with the knife, extended it out, and they felt threatened."

Flores said the police officers were not wearing body cameras during the call, and had answered a previous call about Jacobs.

After Jacobs was shot, she was taken to a hospital, but did not survive her gunshot wound.

Jacobs became a social media star on YouTube in June 2015, when she posted a video of herself having an emotional meltdown and her 4-year-old stray shelter dog, Samson, comforting her, reported AZ Family.

Jacobs said that her meltdowns were caused by Asperger's, a form of autism that she was diagnosed with in 2013, and wanted to raise awareness about the condition.

Samson is now living with Jacobs's family.
