Chandra Wisnu, otherwise known as the 'bubble skin man' for his debilitating skin disease that leaves him fully covered with itchy red bumps, is seeking a cure on the TLC documentary series 'Bubble Skin Man,' that will begin on June 20 (video below).
Wisnu, who has been suffering from the skin disease for over 30 years, told News.com.au: "People are afraid, they are frightened of my horrible face and worried they might catch the disease. So instead I avoid people, I rarely go out except to pick up my daughter from school. And when I do I cover my head and my face because I don’t want my daughter’s friends to bully her for having ‘the dad with the horrible face’.”
Early in the disease, Wisnu’s parents took him to numerous dermatologists, who said the tumors were benign and possibly caused by a problem in his nervous system: “There was no special treatment for my disease. I was just told to see one dermatologist after another because they did not know how to treat me.”
The normally private Wisnu is appearing on the documentary in hopes that doctors can help seek a cure for his children who have started to show signs of the disease: “They only have some small tumors now but they worry they will get worse. If there is a chance to get such kind of free medication, I will take that chance, but right now my family is all the treatment I need.”
