The popular social media site Reddit.com is notorious for posting pictures of porn, upskirt shots and pics of scantily-clad underage girls.

However, there is a growing SubReddit community that is committed to helping people (mostly men) overcome their addictions to pornography and masturbation.

The "NoFap" community has 83,000 members, who call themselves "fapstronauts."

According to Business Insider, the NoFap movement started via a post on Reddit in 2011, which linked to a study that claimed men who don’t masturbate for a week experience an increase in testosterone levels by 45.7%.

According to the group's home page on Reddit.com:

NoFap hosts challenges in which participants abstain from pornography and/or masturbation for a period of time. This Reddit website is also a venue for open discussion of the NoFap experience and related issues. Whether your goal is casual participation in a NoFap week or monthly challenge as a test of self-control, or whether excessive masturbation or pornography has become a problem in your life and you want to quit for a longer period of time, you will find a supportive community and plenty of resources here.

The NoFap community includes people who want to test their self-control, and those who want to quit their addictions to pornography and masturbation.

"Some Fapstronauts are here to improve their interpersonal relationships, whether it be for a marriage, a relationship, or single life," NoFap's 24-year-old founder Alexander Rhodes told Business Insider.

"For others, it is simply a challenge of willpower, to seize control of your sexuality and turn it into superpowers," added Rhodes. "There are many, many different reasons to join but we're all on NoFap with one goal, to help each other abstain from PMO (porn/masturbation/orgasm)."

Rhodes added that most members are men in their 20s, but women ("femstronauts") are also welcome.

In addition to the Reddit Community, there is also a NoFap website and YouTube page called the "NoFap Academy," which includes inspirational videos (below).
