Big Surprise: Comedian Russell Brand Thinks Drugs Should be Legal
British comedian and Katy Perry-ex Russell Brand testified in front of the English House of Commons that drugs should be legalized, in his expert opinion. He wore gold chains and crosses along with a ripped black vest and his iconic black hat to the hearing.
“I’m not a legal expert,” said Brand. “I’m saying that, to a drug addict, the legal aspect is irrelevant. If you need to get drugs, you will. The criminal and legal status, I think, send the wrong message. Being arrested isn’t a lesson, it’s just an administrative blip.”
The Get Him to the Greek star has famously and publicly struggled with substance abuse throughout his life. He has been very open with his fans about his personal ordeal and has seen the inside of rehab facilities on more than a few occasions.
Many experts agree with Brand as a matter of public policy. They believe that marijuana, or cannabis as it is named in Europe, could serve legitimate medical functions for certain patients and that its legalization may even help prevent more serious drug addiction.
In patients suffering from anxiety and other mood disorders, marijuana may actually be a healthier option than drugs that have the potential to cause more serious dependency like xanax addiction.
