560-Pound Man Riding Bicycle Across Country To Lose Weight, Win Wife's Love

| by Michael Allen

Eric Hites weighs 560 pounds, but is trying to lose weight and save his marriage with a bicycling trip across the country.

Hites, who lives in Indiana, began his journey in Falmouth, Massachusetts, last month. He claims to have lost 60 pounds in two weeks.

“I thought it would take four months, but I’m almost two months into it and I’m only in Rhode Island," Hites told The Newport Daily News.

His bicycle suffered a bent rim and stranded him temporarily in Tiverton, Rhode Island.

He is currently living in a tent near a church, but a local bicycle store owner is building him a bike that should support his weight all the way to California.

Hites wrote on his website:

After I complete my trip I will write a book on the experience. This fundraiser to help with supplies and equipment and any costs for camping, eating, etc. I'll need all the support I can get.

By completing this ride, I hope to encourage others to get up and get moving no matter their weight. I have a lot to prove and a lot to make happen. I want to write this book to inspire others and inspire myself and show the love of my life, I still got it. There are a lot of naysayers out there and I am going to prove them wrong.
