12-Year-Old Boy's Mystery Illness Keeps Him From Wanting to Eat and Drink

| by Lisa Fogarty

A 12-year-old boy from Iowa has a mystery illness that is confounding doctors, who are unsure of how to treat him. Landon Jones has absolutely no desire to eat or drink and lacks any appetite.

His father Michael, 43, says he has to constantly be reminded to eat and that it’s a daily struggle to keep him well.

“We feel like we’re seeing him deteriorate in front of our eyes,” Michael told the Des Moines Register.

Landon reportedly woke up on the morning of Oct. 14, 2013 without any desire to eat. His symptoms included extreme dizziness and an abundance of phlegm in his chest that made him cough repeatedly.

This judge looked an inmate square in the eyes and did something that left the entire courtroom in tears:

What makes this even more mysterious is that it came on suddenly. Just one day before, Landon had eaten pizza and ice cream and went for a bike ride, according to Michael.

A chest X-ray determined that the child suffered from a bacterial infection in his left lung, which doctors were able to treat. But his appetite didn’t return and Landon went from weighing 104 pounds before the illness to an astounding 68.4 pounds.

With his lack of energy, Landon is reportedly unable to participate in gym classes or even practice the trombone, since he lacks enough breath to play.

The Jones family has visited five cities in the past year in the hopes of diagnosing and treating Landon’s mystery condition. He is currently being considered for an appointment at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, where doctors take only the most rare cases of unexplainable diseases each year.
