Kenyarda Dukes, of Marietta, Georgia, was at home with her 11-year-old son, James, on Sept. 22 when she realized she was going into labor, WSBTV reported.

"I was screaming, and my son ran in the room: 'Mom, are you OK?' I'm like, ‘Nooo!’" Kenyarda told WSBTV.

James sprang into action. “I called 911,” he said. "They told me what to do: to get towels and wrap the baby up."

Royal Dukes, weighing in at 6 pounds 9 ounces, was brought into the world with the help of his big brother.

"Words can't express how proud I am," James’ father said. "He is the epitome of when you tell your son that 'you’re the man of the house so you have to take care of those responsibilities,' and he did it to a T."

Kenyarda was equally happy. "My son was brave,” she said. "He didn't shake. He didn't budge ... He did a wonderful job, and I’m proud of him."

Dr. Eric Brown, who was supposed to deliver Royal, also praised James. “I've never heard of anything like this. I think James is very special," he said. “The baby is doing fantastic. As you can see, his young doctor is taking very good care of him.”

As the result of his experience, James has decided he wants to be a doctor when he grows up. “I don't like people hurting or down or anything. So I want to fix them and help them,” he said.

Brown is happy to have an assistant. “I'm anticipating James to spend some time with me at the office, and we'll help James make his dream come true to be a physician,” he said.

Mother and baby made it to the hospital and were set to be released Sept. 24.
