More than 3,000 people have raised $170,000 to help a Kansas man whose wife died unexpectedly just days after giving birth to triplets.

Casi Rott, already a mother of two, had described her pregnancy as "the toughest thing she had ever done," according to the Daily Mail.

Pregnant with triplets, Casi chose to carry the babies to 34 weeks rather than take a fertility drug that would have induced early labor.

"Nothing would get in her way of doing that," her husband, Joey, said. "She'd do anything possible to do that. And that's exactly what she did."

Three months after being moved from her rural Kansas home so she would be closer to a hospital, Casi prematurely gave birth to triplets Asher, Levi and Piper by cesarean section.

While recovering in the hospital, Casi began experiencing chest pains. Doctors found a large blood clot in her lung and put Casi on blood thinners. Four days later she was told she could go home. Before leaving, she held her newborn triplets for the first time.

Joey recalled how happy Casi was to finally return home and spend time with their two daughters, 7-year-old Chloe and 2-year-old Tenley.

"That was the happiest I've ever seen her," Joey said.

But minutes after greeting her older children, Casi began to experience severe chest pains like she had days before in the hospital. Joey helped her into the car and began driving to the emergency room, but Casi died before they got there.

Joey is now a single father of five children. A GoFundMe page created to help him has raised over $170,000 in seven months.

"There are so many people that are here to help me," he said, according to Inside Edition.

Joey is also asking friends and family for stories about his late wife, which he will use to create a memory book for their children.

"She'll just be missed so much," he said. "Never in my life have I met a soul as kind as she was."
