Since the November passage of Prop 8 -- which bans homosexual couples from getting legally married in the state of California -- many gay rights activists have said the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was largely responsible for the controversial proposition's success. The Church was a significant financial supporter of the proposition and has since faced backlash via criticism, rallies and threats of boycotts.

In California, only a simple majority of the electorate is required to amend the state constitution. 47.7% voted against proposition 8, but that makes no difference under article 18 section 4.
The state constitution is not an appropriate place for controversial legislation.
Though I disagree with their stance, I don't think they should be demonized for having an opinion like anyone else.
The Mormon Church sought to use its power over the minds and wallets of its worshippers--as churches tend to do--to take rights away from a group. They asked for it.

California residents, only a small minority of whom were Mormons, voted to eliminate gay marriage. While a significant minority might not have had the vote go "their way," they have the option of revisiting this issue in future elections rather than employing the tactics they have been using. Finally, it shouldn't surprise anyone that Mormons would support traditional marriage. They are known for being a family-centered church. Their members based their political participation in this last election on the basis of their foundational beliefs. That is what we all do.
I understand the desire to protest, but jumping on police cars and shutting down traffic is not the best way to achieve your goals. It only angers everyone who is inconvenienced. As Arnie says, "this is the will of the people." I would rather see gay rights advocates work to overturn this through the courts and another ballot process... Make the people want something different next time.
