Google, which has made no secret of its ongoing quest to improve search results, is giving more power to users. Anyone with a Google account can now block specific Web sites if the user doesn't like the content provided by a search result.
Users had the ability to block particular sites before today, but it required a lot more work. Now it's just a simple click.
The move comes on the heels of a major change in Google's search algorithm, which was unveiled in mid February. The move was designed to weed out -- or at least penalize -- so-called content farms.
But this latest step allows users to have a greater say over what Google search results are presented.

Google wrote on its official blog:
You’ve probably had the experience where you’ve clicked a result and it wasn’t quite what you were looking for. Many times you’ll head right back to Google. Perhaps the result just wasn’t quite right, but sometimes you may dislike the site in general, whether it’s offensive, pornographic or of generally low quality. For times like these, you’ll start seeing a new option to block particular domains from your future search results.
In the message, Google admitted that it may eventually consider users' collective blocks to further weed out low-quality sites.
We’re adding this feature because we believe giving you control over the results you find will provide an even more personalized and enjoyable experience on Google. In addition, while we’re not currently using the domains people block as a signal in ranking, we’ll look at the data and see whether it would be useful as we continue to evaluate and improve our search results in the future.
