Good News, Pro-Marijuana Bill Fails in California

ST. PETERSBURG, FL -- Despite recent media claims of California being one step closer to taxing and regulating marijuana, it appears Assembly Bill 390 has died in the Health committee and will not make it to full assembly vote by deadline, leaving pro-drug advocates no closer to legalizing a toxic weed.

“Taxed pot is not the answer to any state’s economic crisis. Assembly Bill 390 would no doubt increase societal costs relating to drug treatment and healthcare which would far outweigh any generated revenue,” said Calvina Fay, executive director of Save Our Society From Drugs.

John Redman, executive director of the non-profit Californians for Drug Free Youth was on the front lines opposing this legislation and feels this is truly a tremendous victory for the people. “For the safety and well-being of California residents, particularly youth, I applaud the overwhelming opposition to AB 390. Plain and simple, pot is bad for the brain, especially young brains, and if our elected officials had continued down this path of destruction, there would have been no turning back,” Redman said.

“Public safety would have surely been affected by this legislation. The increase of domestic violence and child abuse associated with substance abuse would have been a likely result, not to mention increased drugged driving rates and vehicular fatalities. I applaud the legislature for not even hearing this bill,” concluded Fay.

Save Our Society From Drugs (S.O.S.) has over ten years of experience in monitoring and making policy recommendations on drug policy issues including those pertaining to marijuana as a so-called medicine. S.O.S. takes a comprehensive approach to promote sound drug policy that includes education, prevention, abstinence-based treatment, scientific research, and community awareness. The increase of domestic violence ...... what a joke anyone who has ever smoke know that violence and weed don't go together.People who don't smoke pot think it's some far out wild drug and people who do smoke regularly know the Truth. Marijuana is not a debilitating drug in the same way alcohol is, marijuana is a safer alternative for responsible ADULTS " not teenagers in high school ". Obviously if you smoke pot all day every day that's not good for anyone and if worried about your lungs use a vaporizer or put it in food ! legalize it already, it's really a simple argument

The increase of domestic violence ??? I never in my life seen someone smoke a joint and become violent, Just another person that doesn't understand, mybe refeer madness is ture as well "smoke a joint and go mentally crazy"...Nobody legalized alcohol because it's completely safe , they legalized alcohol, because it was more dangerous having illegal .People who don't smoke pot think it's some far out wild drug and people who do smoke regularly know the Truth. Marijuana is not a debilitating drug in the same way alcohol is, marijuana is a safer alternative for responsible ADULTS " not teenagers in high school ". Obviously if you smoke pot all day every day that's not good for anyone and if worried about your lungs use a vaporizer or put it in food ! legalize it already. If you don't want to smoke weed then don't and for the people who do want to smoke than smoke.....

What this article says is completely ridiculous. Calling marijuana a toxic weed is a lie. When you say that the legalization of marijuana would lead to societal costs related to drug treatment , you are insinuating marijuana is addictive. False.
How would legalizing something safer than alcohol and tobacco make domestic violence go up? I challenge whoever wrote this article to find one domestic violence charge attributed to someone under the influence of marijuana, and marijuana only. Clearly the person that wrote this article has no real experience around people that smoke marijuana. They are just used to hearing government lies. All the current system is doing is putting money in the hands of criminals. Criminals that, when people buy weed from them, push other (hardcore) drugs on the buyers. When Redman says pot is bad for the brain, where is the evidence? It sounds like he got it straight from "Reefer Madness". As a personal smoker and supporter of marijuana, I have smoked before driving too many times to count. I have had one accident driving my whole life, and it was when I was sober. If they are worried about the use of marijuana in teens going up, consider this: Alcohol is regulated by the government, and it is easier for teens today to get marijuana than it is alcohol. Get some real information and it will probably change your mind.

Finally, an intelligent person! I am totally with you. I don't get what everyone's problem is. There is nothing wrong with marijuana and the FACTS ARE THERE. Yet, they STILL pull s*** out of there a**. It's sickening to believe these people are even alive. Sometimes I wonder how in h*** they get dressed every morning... It's all about stereo-typing, you know?

The bill was voted for debate by the public safety committe and the health committee never voted on it. It had to pass both to advance to the full assembly for debate. Regardles,it is the first bill that was passed by any committee and the prohibitionists are scared.
The bills author and supporters will be reintroducing it in the next legislative session,if the voters initiative doesn' legalize marijuana in the fall .
And the anti marijuana coalitions will be spreading propaganda like a fertilizer spreader at a dairy farm,so be ready.
Every time you see their propaganda, write the publishing paper or magazine, and make them print corrections, when there is obvious
lies and myths used to convince unaware citizens that marijuana is dangerous. Research your complaints and furnish your proof.
We can do this!

America does not have a marijuana problem,we can find marijuana in every town in America.

Better enjoy your little victory, S.O.S. Marijuana legalization will be a California ballot measure that the people will get to vote on in November, and it will pass. Over 56% of Californians want legal marijuana and we will get it.

Not to worry though. You'll find that marijuana use among kids and teenagers will end up dropping once pot is regulated. I know it's hard for you to admit, but ending the war on weed will be good for both marijuana consumers and non-marijuana users.

I've never heard of this group before... are they also opposed to alcohol , caffeine , and nicotine?

KirkMuse's picture

The so-called drug free organizations don't oppose alcohol ,
caffeine or nicotine because they are financed by the tobacco
and alcohol industry.

Is Calvina Fey on the payroll of the Mexican drug cartels?
Probably not, but she might as well be. The policies she
advocates makes them fabulously wealthy.
