Goldfish Racing Gets the Hook

| by PETA

Fish are no longer on tap at the Harmon Tap Room in Tacoma, Washington. After numerous e-mails and phone calls from PETA supporters, the bar canceled its weekly goldfish races  and replaced them with the much more humane fraternity staple: beer pong.

Every Tuesday, the bar had hosted live goldfish races in which patrons put fish into long plastic gutters and used squirt bottles, squirt guns, and straws to push them to the finish line. Some inebriated bargoers stabbed fish with drinking straws or swallowed them whole. Fish are very sensitive animals who scientists tell us have brains and nervous systems that respond to pain in much the same way that mammals do.

Now Harmon Tap Room patrons can enjoy their spirits served with a splash of kindness. But many bars and restaurants still hold cruel and unentertaining fish races. Please take a moment to send an e-mail asking these establishments to consider more fun, humane options.
