Barefoot Shoes: Great for Yoga

Just like any girl, I like shoes. But instead of stilettos (which I can admire from afar or even in my closet, just not on my feet—ouchie ouch!), I tend to “collect” tennis shoes, Chucks and other casual cute covers for my tootsies. The latest addition to my growing collection of comfy footwear? Sockwa. Not only is it fun to say (I may run around the house jumping around like a ninja and whispering “SOCKWA” on occasion), but they’re kind of fun to wear, too.

I tried a pair of Dojos—an indoor shoe made of Neoprene, fleece and mesh all with a soothing suede-like cover. It’s kind of like wearing a cross between a thin slipper and water shoes (ever had a pair of those? I had some as a kid for the water park—ahhh, memories!). The Neoprene gives the shoe some stretch to fit your feet snugly but not tightly (although sometimes they felt like they were cramping my toe’s style), the mesh lets your feet breathe (no stinky feet here!) and the fleece just feels nice. I wore them around the house (now that I work at home, yippee!), and felt like my feet were better supported and almost like the muscles in my feet were challenged and getting a workout. I also tried them while doing yoga and liked the sole’s non-slip surface. (It’s like a yoga mat is on your feet!) Although I wasn’t at a gym for the yoga, my husband definitely did notice them, asking, ”What the heck is on your feet?” And not in a “that looks weird but good” way. In a weird way.

So. They’re not exactly stylish, but they are highly functional. And I like ‘em. The company also makes a pair of outdoor shoes for barefoot (or almost barefoot, I guess) running, camping and boating, but I’m not that brave—yet. We’ll see once I’m house barefoot broken. —Jenn
