Glenn Beck Breaks Story on Navy SEAL's Dead Dog

When Glenn Beck broke the story of retired Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell, whose dog, DASY, was allegedly shot and killed by two men Beck appropriately refers to as "Dirtbag 1" and "Dirtbag 2," PETA's Cruelty Investigations Department leapt into action.

PETA immediately offered a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Michael Edmonds, a fugitive, and one of the men accused of the heinous act. Shortly after we sent our letter to the Texas Rangers' office, Edmonds reportedly turned himself in (maybe he thought we'd give him the reward money …).

And we're happy to announce that he, along with Alfonso Hernandez, is now facing cruelty charges for DASY's death. We understand that both of these monsters are also under investigation for other animal killings in Walker County, Texas. Watch the moving clip from Glenn Beck's second broadcast on this tragic issue and remember to report cruelty to animals to your local law-enforcement agency—and let us know if the agency doesn't take action or you need help.

First good Beck story I've ever read.

News sources say Luttrell chased down the shooters himself while calling 911, resulting in a successful car stop and arrest.

Only one of the "dirtbags" was apprehended by Luttrell. Edmunds escaped, but thanks to PETA and the massive media coverage, especially by Fox News, he ended up surrendering. I'm sure he was "dirtbag" enough to see the writing on the wall if he did not do so -- at least some poor soul will not be in jail for taking his sorry behind off the street. Fortunately, in Texas, we take this seriously -- it IS a felony.

Here's what Chron says, which is in line with all the other major news coverage:

"The driver, 24-year-old Alfonzo Hernandez, was taken into custody that night. Michael Edmonds II, 21, was released along with the pair in the backseat. Luttrell filed a complaint against Edmonds the next day, but says he was told the men in the backseat were considered witnesses. He was upset they were not also held accountable, since if a person were murdered, the pair would be considered accessories.

Hernandez and Edmonds are charged with state jail felony cruelty to an animal. Both are free on bond."

So both men were caught on the night of the incident, and eventually charged solely due to Luttrell's efforts.

I find it very disingenuous of PETA to take any credit in these arrests. This news release conveniently fails to mention that Luttrell chased the shooters at high speed for a long distance, at the same time directing the police to the scene on the phone.

The man lost his dog, and one that was helping him recover from major trauma at that. He did what he could—and kudos for restraining himself from shooting them, as he admitted he was tempted to—but the dog is still dead. This is not an appropriate opportunity for a random organization to come and promote itself.

PETA is not a "random" organization. At least someone was willing to put their money where their mouth is. Please look up the definition of PETA. This was not "ethical treatment " of an "animal", and PETA is on target. The old addage "money talks and XXXX walks" still works.
