James Gandolfini died on Wednesday at the age of 51. A veteran actor, the New Jersey-bred star worked an assortment of minor movie and TV parts between 1987 and 1992. In 1993, he landed the role of ‘Virgil’ in Quentin Tarantino’s True Romance, and for all intents and purposes, that paved the way for him to become the iconic star everyone recognizes him as today. Sopranos creator David Chase, on numerous occasions, praised Gandolfini’s role in True Romance and cited it as one of the main things that opened his eyes up to how talented his future Tony Soprano truly was.
