Gabourey Sidibe Cover Photo Retouched to Make Skin Lighter?

Academy Award-nominated actress Gabourey Sidibe has scored her first big fashion magazine cover. But now there are questions about whether she was retouched to make her skin look lighter.

Sidibe, who burst onto the scene last year in her starring role in "Precious," appears on the cover of the 25th anniversary issue of ELLE magazine. In fact, there are four different covers -- the others feature Megan Fox, Amanda Seyfried and Lauren Conrad.

But compare Gabourey's cover to another photo of her. Her skin appears much lighter. In an email to Yahoo, ELLE doesn't exactly put the issue to rest:

"Nothing out of the ordinary was done. We have four separate covers this month and Gabby's cover was not retouched any more or less than the others. We had 25 cover-worthy subjects in our portfolio and we chose Gabby because of who she is. We shot this as a story of exuberant young women changing the world. If you take a look at the portfolio, each of the women were shot in different ways and for different reasons."

There are questions about the end of that statement as well. The other three women are shown on their covers in full-body glamour shots wearing stylish clothes. Gabourey, who is much larger than her skinny counterparts, is cropped at mid-chest, with fabric covering her curves:
