A Promising Future for Personal Health Care
Radical Healing: Integrating the World’s Great Therapeutic Traditions to Create a New Transformative Medicine
It’s not news that we are in the midst of a health care crisis in the US – high and rapidly escalating health care costs, a fragmented and inefficient delivery system, diminishing choices in providers and services, the decline in employer-based coverage, and no sustainable way for the US government to continue to subsidize our health care.
It’s become clear to many of us that we need to take the initiative in learning how to approach our well-being from a perspective that doesn’t rely solely on current medical systems – approximately 38 percent of adults and 12 percent of children are using some form of complementary and alternative medicine (The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine and the National Center for Health Statistics).

In this timely second edition of Radical Healing – revised, expanded, and updated – Dr Ballentine offers a new vision of health care and well-being – one that integrates the holistic healing traditions of ayurveda, homeopathy, Traditional Chinese Medicine, and other herbal medicinal traditions. He explains and emphasizes the importance of understanding and maintaining the connection between the healing and spiritual aspects of these traditions. Only by maintaining this connection can mind, body and spirit be healed.
Today more than ever, there is a burgeoning need to accept a new way of healing and, ultimately, a new way of living. But unfortunately, the ongoing US health care crisis, heavy reliance on patented medications, and rising costs of treatment persist:
~In 2010, the percentage of Americans without health insurance was 15.8%, or approximately 47 million uninsured people. – US Census Bureau~
~The average health insurance plan for family coverage currently costs $13,375. Over the past decade, premiums have increased by 138 percent. If the current trend continues, by 2019 the average family plan will cost $30,038. – US Census Bureau~
~“An estimated one-third to one-half of the $2.2 trillion Americans spend annually on health care in the U.S. is spent on unnecessary tests, treatments and doctor visits. Much of that merely buys time for the body to heal itself.” – Raymond Scalettar, former Chairman of the American Medical Association (AMA)~
The encouraging news is that more Americans are exploring, and using, alternative health care modes and creating healthier lifestyles. Radical Healing is an essential tool that can help them to restore and maintain good health as part of that transformative process.
