ABORTION ABORTION ABORTION ABORTION ABORTION ABORTION ABORTION ABORTION ABORTION ABORTION ABORTION...

Family Research Council...

First of all, I thought Tony Perkins died of AIDS . Oh, wrong Tony Perkins. My bad.

Abortion is one of three driving forces behind the ideology of people who subscribe to groups such as the Family Research Council ("family values" and the right to gun ownership being the others). Abortion is the main driving force. Bring up any random topic and these folks will figure out a way to link it to abortion and the "culture of death".

Regarding Medicaid-funded abortions--the federal government has left it up to the states to decide whether or not to use Medicaid to pay for abortions. Most, if not all, states have state amendments prohibiting the use of Medicaid benefits to pay for abortion unless the mother 's life is in danger because of the pregnancy .

So, two qestions: why is the Family RESEARCH Council being given so much play and therefore credibility when it comes to complex political matters? The Family Research Council doesn't do research AND they are a religious organization. Does that set off any alarm bells?

I know that abortion is a complex issue, but the bottom line is that it's legal and IT'S A PERSONAL ISSUE. What I find ironic is that the people who want to outlaw abortion are generally the same types that scream and holler for less government intrusion in our lives and against gun control . Their pretzel logic is mind-numbing.

President Obama's goals for healthcare reform will in no way increase the number of abortions performed in the US each year, and will probably decrease the number of abortions because of greater access to family planning services. OH MY GOD, there's another Family Research Council soapbox issue--BIRTH CONTROL FOR ADOLESCENTS!!!!!!!!! Well, by gosh, if you make birth control available to kids , that's just like telling them it's ok to have sex. Really? OK. I guess wearing bike helmets is telling kids it's ok to ride their bikes into oncoming traffic. Or take seat belts. The logic of the right wing leads to the conclusion that teaching kids about the importance of wearing seatbelts tells them that it's ok to drive like a bat out of hell.

Go tell it to Bristol Palin, the poster child for failed abstinence-only sex ed .

Abortion is a private matter; it should never have become a political issue.

And naturally the Family "Research" Council would use a catchphrase like "the 'DEVIL' is in the details" when it comes to President Obama.

Seriously, who can justify taking these jokers, well, seriously?

You can rant all you want but Obama has been caught in a lie. The question now is how many other lies is he telling on health care ?

You're gonna have to give me a little more ammo, pun intended, re: "Obama has been caught in a lie". What lie? Lying about...what?

"The truth is that bills now before Congress don’t require federal money to be used for supporting abortion coverage. So the president is right to that limited extent. But it’s equally true that House and Senate legislation would allow a new "public" insurance plan to cover abortions, despite language added to the House bill that technically forbids using public funds to pay for them."

"The Capps amendment states that some abortions "shall" be covered by the " public option " plan, specifically those types of abortions that Congress allows to be covered under Medicaid, under the so-called "Hyde Amendment," which has been attached regularly to appropriations bills for many years. These are abortions performed in cases or rape or incest, or to save the life of the mother .

As for other types of abortions, the Capps amendment leaves it to the secretary of Health and Human Services to decide whether or not they will be covered. It says, "Nothing in this Act shall be construed as preventing the public health insurance option from providing" abortion services that would not be legal for Medicaid coverage."

Also:

"The Capps amendment does contain a statement – as we noted in an earlier article – that prohibits the use of public money to pay for abortions, except in cases of rape, incest and to save the life of the mother. That would still allow the public plan to cover all abortions, so long as the plans took in enough private money in the form of premiums paid by individuals or their employers. The Capps language also would allow private plans purchased with federal subsidies ("affordability credits" for low- income families and workers ) to cover abortion."

To you this is a lie?

Your cherry-picking the article. The bottom line is the right thinks he's lying, the left hopes he's lying and Factcheck.org says he's lying.

I feel sorry for you, indeed.

"He's lying, 'cause (insert random site name here) said so"

WHAT?
Are you really so brainwashed that you find the time to cut and paste a link to something that agrees with your opposing viewpoint?

Most people want facts backed up by a reliable source. Factcheck.org has been mentioned several times on CNN and usually take Obama's side. I didn't look for a site that took my side. I took the side that a reliable site took. If Factcheck.org had taken the other side then I would have too.
